About Reuben Kigame
Born on March 13, 1966 in Bunyore, Vihiga District, Reuben became blind at the age of three years. He attended Kibos Primary School for the Blind and the Salvation Army High School for the Blind before joining Kenyatta University in 1987 and from where he graduated with an upper 2nd degree in Education.
Reuben then taught at Maryhill Girls High School for four years before resigning in 1994 to establish and head a Christian Apologetics organization called Word of Truth Ministries, a group that defends and explains the Christian faith to its critics and opponents. Reuben’s organization also equips Christians for such an active drfense of Christianity. Reuben holds debates, lectures and open forums in the area of Christian Apologetics in Kenya and other countries of the world.
Between 1996 and 1998, Reuben studied Christian Apologetics at the Institute of Christian Apologetics under the auspices of the Ravi Zacharias International Ministries in Atlanta, Georgia and is currently doing a Masters programme in Apologetics at the Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Reuben has spoken at universities, seminaries and churches in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Eritrea, Germany, Switzerland, England and the U.S.A. He has been a great mentor to many Christians and spoken to thousands of High School students across Kenya as well.
Another vibrant area of involvement for Reuben is music. He has sang with various artists and mentored several of them both locally and internationally. Since College days when he sang on and traveled with Kenya Youth for Christ teams, his passion for integrating music and evangelism has continued to grow. In recent years, Reuben has concentrated his efforts on writing and producing worship music for the African Church and assisting young, upcoming artists to write and record Bible-based songs. He has also recorded fifteen Gospel albums and is well known both in Kenya and beyond. His Country music has not just been well-received outside Kenya but has put Kenya on the Country Music scene overseas. His worship songs are used regularly by various Christian denominations in East and Central Africa. He and his team have even sang to a number of senators in the State of Maine in the U.S.A. Reuben had a chance to briefly bring a special greeting from Africa. He has also sang to both President Moi on Kenya’s national days and to President Kibaki (current president) and his guests at a garden party at State House. When Reuben is not doing Christian Apologetics, he is involved with his family or in music production or teaching on worship. He has met, spoken to and encouraged numerous Kenyan students overseas, especially those in the U.S.A and is known in several Christian homes and churches across Germany, Switzerland, Norway and the U.K.A for his testimony and music ministry.
Lastly, this summary would not be complete without mentioning that Reuben Kigame is a well-known man in the area of radio broadcasting. He has earned himself a name as a radio talkshow host and presenter having served at Radio Citizen, Sayare Radio, Family FM and Hope FM. He has served briefly on BHB 90.9 and surprised many by ably presenting a show on Kameme FM. He has also been a guest on several radio and TV stations in Kenya and overseas, mostly providing information on how to deal with cults and other false religious sects and how to help those involved in them to quit. With the help of ministry friends and partners, Reuben hopes to expand this radio ministry by establishing a Christian radio station in Eldoret situated in Western Kenya.
Reuben is married to Mercy, and together they have three daughters: Shalom, Shekinah and Shema. He and his family reside in Eldoret situated on the Western Highlands of Kenya where the ministry has recently relocated to and operates from. Reuben derives his strength from the Lord and his family. He has been married to Mercy since May 1991 and enjoys spending time with Mercy and the children at the end of every day and over the weekends.
