Simple majority required to pass the Annan deal

The speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende says he does not expect any difficulties in passing the bill of a coalition government to implement the Koffi Annan deal. Marende stated that the bill can be voted by atleast 30 members of parliament which he said constitute a simple majority. He noted that the parliament will follow the normal house procedure and indicated that he doesn’t expect any difficulties in the implementation the said changes. The government is expected to draft a bill and table it in parliament for debate to initiate the changes after the house is reconvened. President Mwai Kibaki is expected to perform the official opening the tenth parliament on Thursday next week.
