Communities asked to promote peace
Communities affected by the post-election skirmishes and politicians have been called upon to be in the forefront in ensuring that lasting peace is achieved in the country. Kenya Redcross society Secretary General Abbas Gullet said there is need to build confidence and trust among communities to ensure that people live in harmony. Speaking at a press conference in Eldoret, Gullet said that the Kenya Redcross Society is ready to collaborate with the Government to resettle the Internally Displaced Persons living in camps. He added that a number of people are currently moving back to their homes, especially in areas such as Cherangani, Endebbes and Koibatek after the signing of a power sharing deal between President Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga. Meanwhile the Secretary-General denied claims that the Redcross society was denied access into Mt.Elgon region saying that the society has been offering assistance to the residents in the past 5 days. He however stated that those that were assisted had minor injuries and no one had bullet wounds.
