Residents of Rachuonyo and Homabay districts in drought-affected areas will benefit from a water and irrigation project to be put up by a Non Governmental Organization. The scheme to run for three years will enable residents to grow crops such as rice and do animal husbandry in the drought prone areas of the districts. Project Manager Nelson Korir asked the government to open a bank account in Nairobi allowing the expansion of its services to other affected areas in the great Nyanza province. Korir said the project to be launched by end of the month would be at the residents’ disposal to use and buy approved seeds for planting. Most residents have welcomed the construction of the project saying it will make them achieve a bumper harvest even in the sunny season and bring down famine in the next few years. ENDS ………………….
