Tourism in the North Rift Region yet to pick up
Tourism in the North Rift region has not yet picked up this year after a drop of 95% in the last 3 months following the post election skirmishes experienced in the country. Eldoret town which is a transit point for tourists heading to western province has not received any tourist for the last 3 months due to the on going violence in Mt.Elgon region. Uasin Gishu District tourism Officer Reuben Chepkwony says, hotels in the region have not recorded any bookings from international and local tourists. Uasin Gishu District tourism Officer Reuben Chepkwony added that local tourism is still low in the region since local residents still fear traveling to some parts of the country. He pointed out that the board is conducting educational programmes to educate local councilors to help in sensitizing residents on ways of exploring and developing tourists’ attraction sites in their areas.
