Government asked to investigate frequent arrests of fishermen in Lake Victoria

The government should investigate the frequent arrests of Kenyan fishermen in Lake Victoria for alleged trespass of fishing borders. Nyatike Member of Parliament Eric Omondi Anyanga expressed his concern over threats issued to Kenyan fishermen especially those from Nyatike and Suba beaches saying they have been denied freedom of movement in their own country. Anyanga asked the Kenyan government and that of Uganda to set up a boundary that will be respected by all the fishermen in the two countries to avoid the unnecessary arrests. The Nyatike MP was speaking at Maundo beach where he addressed fishermen who have called upon the government to set up boundaries that can be identified by all. He lamented of arrests of Kenyan fishermen by Ugandan policemen during the night operations who also demand bribes so that they cannot sue them to the Ugandan courts of law.
