Kanga High school risks closure following poor sanitation.
Kanga High School in Rongo district now risks closure if the school management does not improving the school’s sanitation. Rongo District PublicHealth Officer Samson Olilo Masudi said the school is not up to standards with cleanliness and this could lead to an outbreak of cholera.
He says said the school kitchen, Dining hall and the school needed cleaning and the toilets repaired and wants the water which was disconnected to be fixed. The Public Health Officer said he has given the school management a notice of 14 days to clear the mess failure to which the government will close the school. Kanga High school students have been collecting their water from the river after the school water pump broke down. The move comes after the government intensified its assessment in the learning institutions to prevent an outbreak of cholera that has affected Nyanza province. It is barely a week after cholera outbreak was contained in Homabay district that claimed the lives of two children leaving many admitted in hospital with similar symptoms of the disease.
