The Mediation talks comes to a conclusion

The Oluyemi Adeniji led mediation talks finally ended yesterday with the Nigerian diplomat putting it clear to Kenyans that they should expect a new constitution around this month next year. The eight member team converged at the Serena Hotel yesterday for the last time and compiled a draft document of agenda four of the talks. In the draft proposal, a constitutional review statute should be enacted in a month’s time and the parliament to enact the referendum law and approve a draft constitution to be prepared in a consultative process with expert assistance. The public will then enact it through a referendum within a period of 12 months counting from the date of enactment of the review statute. The negotiation team comprises of Cabinet Ministers Martha Karua, Moses Wetangula, Mutula Kilonzo, Sam Ongeri, William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi, James Orengo and Sally Kosgei.The team was set up in January to find ways of securing peace, after a disputed presidential election sparked a wave of violence that saw 1,500 people killed and massive destruction to property and infrastructure.
