Operation to comb out small arms to be carried out countrywide

Internal Security minister George Saitoti has stated that security forces in the country are committed to fight crime and tackle the issue of proliferation of small arms. Saitoti says that a stringent operation to comb out small arms will be undertaken but noted that those who will freely surrender the arms to the authorities will receive amnesty from the government. Speaking while presiding over the signing of performance contracts in his ministry, Saitoti said that the ministry would establish a more friendly approach in the force to fight crime. His utterances come at a time when the police force and the military have been adversely mentioned in extra judicial killings and torture of suspects during the post election violence. The minister added that the performance contracts are a milestone to ensure service delivery to meet the expectations of Kenyans.
