Kanu to hold delegates meeting

Kanu is set to hold its National Delegates meeting on today in a bid to try to comply with the Political Parties Act with the December 31 deadline looming. Kanu Chairman Uhuru Kenyatta says the two main agendas of the meeting will be to fill the top vacant positions in the National Executive Council and amend its constitution in order to comply with the Act. The former ruling party is hoping to use the meeting to restore its popularity. The party is also hoping to fill top posts that were left vacant following a major defection exercise of its officials to ODM in the run-up to last year’s general elections. Meanwhile, the Orange Democratic Movement-ODM has confirmed that it will hold its delegates meeting on Saturday. The Political Parties Act was enacted on 1st July and aims to reduce the number of briefcase parties in the country.
