Parties rush to beat deadline.

As the deadline approaches for political parties to ensure they comply they the political parties act, now political parties are doing everything possible to fulfill the law. The Act demands that before being registered a new by the ECK, existing political parties must have 200 registered members in all the eight provinces and one founder member in every district. They should have a headquarters and offices in every district. The parties are also required to pay 500,000 shillings registration fee besides having a “national outlook” and a third of its officials being of an opposite gender. Friday, Narc Kenya submitted the party’s documents to the registrar of political parties to beat the December 31 deadline set for all political parties to comply with political parties Act. Supporters of the flower party led by Chairperson Martha Karua and national officials were at the Electoral Commission of Kenya -ECK- headquarters at anniversary towers to submit compliance documents. Lucy Ndung’u, the newly appointed registrar of Political Parties at ECK received the documents promising to register Narc Kenya once verification of the documents is completed. Narc Kenya becomes the first political party to comply with the political parties Act that became operational this year and seeks to regulate the operations of political parties and their funding. The Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) also presented the party’s documents to the registrar Friday afternoon.
