Raila awarded by Lions Club
Prime Minister Raila Odinga is assuring the international community that the country was back on track after recovering from the post elections crisis. Raila announced that the country had now embarked on a reconstruction and reconciliation path among perceived rival communities after feuding political sides settled for an all-inclusive government or the common good of the nation. The premier however regretted that the aftermath of the post election turmoil ushered social and economic challenges whose trickle effects pushed the prices of food and other basic commodities higher than expected. Speaking during a Lion’s Club meeting at KICC Nairobi also attended by President of Lions Club International, Albert Brandel, Raila commended the lions club international for the critical role the international organization played in supporting the lives of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through relief handouts and other humanitarian assistance during the post poll crisis. He said the government was working on modalities to permanently resettle persons displaced as a result of the political impasse and guarantee their return to deserted homes now that relative calm was restored in the troubled spots. Brandel bequeathed the premier with the coveted Distinguished Citizen of the World award for his role saving the country from the brink by accepting to serve under a coalition government for the sake of national cohesion. He also commended the grand coalition government in the way they handled the post election crisis.
