HIV prevalence rate in North rift rises
HIV/Aids prevalence rate in the North Rift region has risen to 7.5% this year up from 5.3% in the year 2003. According to North Rift National Aids Control Council field officer Hillary Ng’etich who spoke during this year’s world AIDS day celebrations, statistics show that ignorance amongst locals and stigmatization are the main causes of the rise in the prevalence rate.
Meanwhile Ng’etich says NACC now wants to make leaders accountable to promises they have made to Kenyans. The NACC North Rift field officer adds that leaders have for years made promises to Kenyans but failed to fulfill them saying the norm has to be stopped. Ng’etich has revealed that institutions running Orphans and Vulnerable Children programmes (OVC’s) should write proposals and forward them to NACC for the release of funds to cater for their operations. This year’s theme was lead, empower, deliver.
