Matatu transport paralyzed in Eldoret

Public transport on major routes in Eldoret was today grounded following a crackdown by the traffic police.

Eldoret OCPD Bernard Muinde said traffic police managed to net more than 50 matatus which have been impounded at the police station as the drivers wait to be taken to court.

He said the operation is meant to restore order in the matatu sector following public demand that the vehicles were not following traffic rules.

Most of the vehicles grounded were found to be lacking speed governors, safety belts, yellow lines, transport license board (TLB) documents and were over loading. He said the operation will be sustained and those found on the wrong will be charged in court.
