Women at the IDP camps continue to suffer
Reports indicate that more than 3000 women and girls living in the transit IDP camps in Uasin Gishu district have continued to suffer at the camps.
According to the secretary at the women’s rights institute for peace in the district Mariam Suleiman, the women and girls lack security, and proper sanitation besides their basic needs.
Mariam states that most girls have dropped out of school and most parents have opted to spend their resources on their sons.
She noted that the government has neglected them in the compensation adding that even the Non- Governmental organizations which used to provide them with basic needs stopped their services in November last year.
The women are now asking the government to fulfill its pledge to compensate them with 35,000 ksh so as to reconstruct their shattered lives.
