Over 60 families from Eldoret IDP camp relocate
Over 60 families from the Eldoret showground Internally Displaced Persons camp have relocated to Langas estate in Eldoret.
The District Commissioners office gave out a vehicle to assist the families relocate today after they put together funds and bought land.
The families, which relocated at their own will, said they wanted to start a new life and allow their children to grow up in a decent environment citing poor conditions at the showground.
The past 6 months saw over 20,000 families relocating to various places in the country after contributing part of their compensation money and buying land for resettlement. Their move to relocate has come a week after the Agricultural Society of Kenya national chairperson Stewart Madzayo demanded that the government relocate the families to allow for this years ASK event to take place.
Over 3,000 families are still camping at the showground premises, with ASK national chair saying that they have turned the place as their own.
The show is scheduled for the 18th -23rd March 2009.
