House to house polio campaign ends Wednesday

Parents have been advised to ensure that their children under five years received the second round of polio vaccine as the campaign draws to an end Wednesday. Eldoret west Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Bill Lubanga said the ministry of health aims at vaccinating one hundred and seventy thousand children. He said the second round which started on Saturday has been intensified in three districts in Eldoret and other districts that border Turkana. The second round of the vaccine was launched after 9 cases of polio were reported in Turkana and Baringo.

Lubanga says that no cases of polio have been reported in Uasin Gishu noting that house to house polio Campaign is safe and quick to administer.

He appealed to guardians who will not have taken their children by Wednesday to visit health facilities to receive the vaccine as a preventive measure. Our reporter Mike Musungu who has just filed this report and quoting health authorities says the third programme of polio vaccine will take place next month from 23rd to 27th.
