Employment of teachers on contract basis the way to go
Uasin Gishu district education officer in charge of administration Joseph Chemuren has asserted that there is an acute shortage of teachers in the district. Chemuren noted that the shortage is as a result of teachers leaving the service because of various issues affecting some of them including cases of insecurity. The education officer welcomed the government’s move to hirer more teachers on contract in a bid to cater for the high demand of teachers in the country. He however called on the government to consider employing them permanently once the country’s economy improves. Chemuren noted that some head teachers in the district had resorted to employing more teachers thus interfering with their budgets that could have been channeled towards infrastructure, purchasing stationeries and other equipments. Meanwhile, Chemuren is challenging the Knut office to champion for the interest of students as well apart from addressing issues affecting teachers.
