Media urged to be sensitive in reporting

The media has been called upon to practice responsible reporting to avoid sparking violence as it was accused of taking sides during the post election violence. This was said by Eliud Okumu from the Center For Conflict Resolution who noted that media has the capacity to promote peace more than anyone due to its wide coverage and influence on the people. Okumu stated that in currently the media reports more on conflict other than issues of peace noting that there is need for the media to highlight issues that unite and bring cohesion among different communities in the country. Rev. Maritim Rirei of ACK church said media is responsible in promoting peace citing North Rift which is a volatile region and urged the media to use its air time to promote peace and reconciliation. The two said this at a media workshop on Conflict Resolution in Eldoret that took place yesterday.
