Aids infection to Kenyans on the increase
A survey done by the Kenya Aids Indicator has shown that Aids infection in the country has increased from 5.3% in the year 2003 to 6.97% in the year 2007/2008.
Due to this trend, the North Rift region has organized for the introduction of a new package of drug for H.I.V prevention for those living positively in the region so as to prevent further transmission from the infected.
North Rift region HIV Program Officer Esther Tata Papa revealed today at the launch of a one week training for health workers that after thorough monitoring and evaluation of HIV/Aids in the region, the office has decided to train health workers so as to counter the situation.
Papa stated that the training is set to come up with measures that will assist in preventing further infection among the couples and the patients who are under antiretroviral drugs.
The HIV officer has also encouraged behavioral change among the youth challenging them to abstain saying that the number of youth infected is also on the rise in the region.
Papa also brought to the attention of the public that they have enough ARVs for those infected a move facilitated by the global fund and the US government.
