If you are reading this page, it is most likely because you have backslidden in your walk with the Lord. Take heart, there is still hope. In the book of Revelation, we find Christ addressing a church that was going through some kind of backsliding. The Church of Ephesus had forsaken its “First Love”. Christ offers three steps to help anyone who has backslidden to return to him (Revelation 2:5).
Remember
Remember the height from which you have fallen. Remember how your walk with the Lord was and the Joy and peace that came with it. Remember what caused you to slowly drift away from Christ.
To repent means that beyond feeling remorse and guilt, you choose to denounce your sinful ways and turn around to follow Christ. You have to really search your heart to see if you really want to give up whatever sinful ways that are besetting you or whether you still secretly cherish them. God searches our hearts and can tell when we are merely offering lip service to him and not genuine repentance.
Repeat Finally do the things you did at first. Repeat godly patterns of life like the reading of God’s word, involvement in Christian fellowship, dedicating time for prayer and meditation, listening to good Christian music and anything else that you know will draw you close to God.
Remember that like the prodigal son, the Father is always waiting for you to come back home. He will embrace you and take you back if you are truly repentant. He will wash away your sins and choose not to remember them any more. Moreover, the Lord will give you new strength like an eagle, to overcome whatever you struggle with. You have power like that which raised Christ from the dead to live a victorious life.
God has given you everything you need for life and godliness and that power is available to you through the Holy Spirit of God.
Take a moment right now and tell God exactly how you feel. Ask him to take you back if you are truly repentant. If you still have an issue or questions, feel free to write to us for prayer and counsel.
